Kyoto (京都) is an incredible city which is located in the Kansai region, Japan. Kyoto’s traditional culture, Palaces, Temples connect you to the real Japanese culture. That’s the reason it attracts most foreign visitors. By the way, before Tokyo, Kyoto was the capital of Japan. Here are all the tips how to travel Kyoto and what to do in Kyoto.
Kyoto doesn’t have its own airport but still it is very easy to access it from almost all the parts of Japan due to Osaka as it’s very close to Kyoto. So, if you want to go there by flight, you need to take a flight for Osaka and then go by road. Thus, most visitors prefer to take Shinkansen (bullet train) for Kyoto station.
The cheapest way to travel Kyoto from Kumamoto is “Sunrise-go / Asokuma-go Night Bus”. This express night bus runs everyday from Kumamoto City to Kyoto via Osaka. You can use the bus from Kumamoto Sta, Kumamoto Kotsu Center. The one-way trip between Kumamoto to Kyoto takes around 12 hours. The fare is 6000 JPY～11500 JPY (depends on days and bus type).

Kyoto has many Buddhist temples, Shrines, Imperial palaces, traditional market. With thousand years of history and traditional Japanese culture, Kyoto is gaining popularity as a tourist spot not only in Japan but also from Overseas. There are many but most visited hot spots are:-
Kinkakuji Temple is a Golden Pavilion while Ginkakuji Temple is a Silver Pavilion. Both are the symbol of Kyoto. Both the incredible temples are close to each other and can be accessed by bus (just 8 km).
Kiyomizudera mean “A Pure Water Temple”. This is a world heritage according to UNESCO and one of most illustrious temples of Japan. You can see the picture, how the veranda of the temple out side the mountain and supported by the wooden blocks.
Fushimi Inari is the most highly powered Shinto Shrine. This shrine was dedicated to the god of rice and sake. The magical, vibrant orange gates (known for Tori-gate) are the main attraction of this shrine. More info click..
Sanjusangendo is the longest wooden architectural structure in the world. It has around 1000 statues of the goddess. I noted that a statue has 42 arms (20-20 in each side) further it is said that there are 25 salvation works in each hand. Subtract the 2 regular arms and multiply by the 25 planes of existence to get exact 1000 (40 x 25 = 1000) incredible!
There are also some popular places that you can visit like; Nishi-Hongan-ji Temple, Higashi-Hongan-ji Temple, Kyoto imperial palace and more..

Kyoto is known for Japanese Green Tea (Macha マッチャ). There are many things which are made by this like, Noodles, Ice-cream and Cookies. So, I personally recommend you to taste Macha once. The taste is just WOW!
If you are in Japan, then Kyoto is a must to visit place. Kyoto doesn't have its own airport so, Bullet Train is an ideal option to visit Kyoto. If you are in Kumamoto then, a night bus is the cheapest way to do visit Kyoto sightseeing. Take a night bus which arrives in morning, do full-day sightseeing and comeback in night. You can also stay overnight if you wish.
